Cover for my Fantasy Short Story – The Crystal Seers

Hand Embroidery, Colored Pencil,

Graphite & Adobe Photoshop

I used hand embroidery, colored pencil & graphite as a nod to the analog culture where my story takes place, everything is handmade. Additionally, I wanted to try something different, and make the cover stand out with a hand embroidered title. I'm a big believer in combining traditional & digital mediums.

Self-initiated Neon Genesis Evangelion Logo

Clip Studio Paint Pro

One of the anime and manga classics, I wanted to try my hand at creating a logo for the series. The city above refers to Tokyo 3, and the city below refers to the NERV headquarters. The cross shape symbolizes both the Christian themes woven throughout the story, and one of the major weapons featured in the series. The purple to pink gradient represents the advanced technology used within the story, as well as the color of the unit EVA – 01.

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Mermaid Saga

Hand Embroidery, Clip Studio Paint Pro,

I am always looking for ways that I can explore and combine mediums, so I wanted to try a hybrid manga panel coloring with hand embroidered details. I used the colored pencil brushes in Clip Studio Paint Pro to give a textured & saturated look to the colors.

Self-initiated Film Poster for Phoenix

Hand-cut Collage, Colored Pencil & Clip Studio Paint Pro

Such a powerfully acted film that stood with me for days after viewing, I knew I had to design a poster for it. The brick background & the smoke refers to the bombed out ruins of Berlin during WWII. The red colored pencil shapes refer to the dress Nelly wears toward the end of the film. The shapes are torn to symbolize Nelly's fractured state of mind & identity. The music notes are a nod to the pre-war performances of Nelly & her husband, with Nelly singing & her husband playing the piano.

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Gundam Origin

Clip Studio Paint Pro, Illustration by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko

When I discovered this manga series, I was both floored and inspired by the watercolor art! It was immediately refreshing to see and it left an impression on me. With this manga page coloring, I wanted to emulate the watercolor look of the original, using watercolor brushes in Clip Studio Paint Pro. I love how the watercolor is a nice change to the smooth digital look that most Western comics have.

Logo for my Film & Graphic Design Blogs

Adobe Illustrator

For these logos, I aimed to create clean designs that used symbols to show what the blogs are about. For Gotham Dreaming Cinema, I used the crescent moon and stars to highlight night time and the dreaming part of the blog name. The dolphin tail is a nod to the surprising and inventive

nature of experimental film.

For Sequential Dreaming, I was inspired by the Elder Futhark runic symbols. I modified the symbol for dreaming, adding a crescent moon at the bottom as a nod to the dreaming part of the blog name.

Self-initiated Film Poster for – In the Mood for Love

Clip Studio Paint Pro

I was inspired to see this film just by seeing a few stills, the layered compositions spoke to the photographer in me. After seeing the film, it became one of my favorites. The textured background and the subtle smoke refers to the back streets and alleys of Hong Kong, where the characters would often meet. I added in a geometric shadow to emulate the layered visuals of the film. Every shot made use of shooting through something to show the characters from a distance, as if you were looking from the outside into their world. The typography is deliberately spaced to symbolize the complicated relationship between the characters.

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Mermaid Saga

Hand Embroidery, Clip Studio Paint Pro, Illustration by Rumiko Takahashi

After reading this manga, I was immediately inspired to color some panels from it. This panel is another exploration of hand embroidery and digital coloring using colored pencil brushes in Clip Studio Paint Pro. With this panel, I challenged myself to add in even more hand embroidered details.

Book Cover for …And Other Stories

Released On 04/10/18 by

La Casita Grande Editores

Hand-cut Collage & Colored Pencil

This book cover was developed and revised with the editors. It was inspired by one of the stories in the book featuring a bullfighter. They gave me the concept and allowed me to run free in terms of what mediums to use. I chose colored pencil and collage because I wanted to create a one-of-a-kind image.

Self-initiated Restaurant Logo

Adobe Illustrator

I created this logo for a fictional Puerto Rican restaurant. The logo is inspired by the native Taino people of the Caribbean and their symbol for the sun. The word Encanto means to charm, it embodies the way that cuisine can charm someone to love a culture through its food. I chose two hues of orange to refer to the sunny & tropical climate of Puerto Rico.

Self-initiated Film Poster for Another Earth

Clip Studio Paint Pro

I have always loved films that explore sci-fi and the idea of the doppelganger. This film explores both in a fresh new way, it has since become one of my favorites. The two earths refer to the Earth 2 that is a part of the film's storyline. The residential street alludes to the catalyst event of the film. The white rose symbolizes peace and forgiveness towards oneself. The physics equations show the potential career path of the main character.

Self-initiated Gambit & Elektra Logos

Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

These are my versions of comic book character logos.

I am using colors, fonts and designs that allude either

to the character's powers, costume or personality.

These are part of an on-going series with more to come.

Self-initiated Film Poster for Three Colors: Blue

Clip Studio Paint Pro

My favorite film from the Three Colors Trilogy. Kieslowski's use of color amazed me when I found out about this film, while in grad school during my Media Studies program. The music notes show the main character's connection to music being married to a composer. The street image is a clue to the film's catalyst event. The sparkly blue accents are a nod to a well-known scene in the film.

Self-initiated Restaurant Logo

Adobe Illustrator

This is a logo concept for a restaurant re-branding.

I updated their existing logo by adding my own spin

on it by making it white on black, and simplifying the

design to make a larger visual impact.

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Opus

Clip Studio Paint Pro, Illustration by Satoshi Kon

I absolutely love Kon's films and manga! From the writing, to the meta-fiction layered story and the incredible use of panels, this story is one that will inspire me forever. I wanted to enhance the panels by using analogous colors with a pop of red to make the main character stand out. I chose this page because I knew it would be a challenging one to color.

Cover for my First Photography Book The [Masc] We Wear

Studio Self-Portrait Digital Photography

To preview or purchase the book please visit: bit.ly/gothamdreamingphoto

The [Masc] We Wear is a self-portrait photo series that explores the boundaries of masculinity within realm of beauty. I am attempting to show that men can retain their manhood while wearing body paint and posing with butterflies. Masculinity exists within the mind of each man and is not directly related to one’s outward appearance. Due to the props I am using, you would expect to see a woman in the image, but instead you’ll see me. Men can be beautiful as well, and don’t have to sacrifice or give up any portion of their virility to prove it.

Commissioned Poster for La Casita Grande Editores

NuPastels & Digital Typography & Adobe Illustrator

This poster was commissioned to inform and entice viewers

to attend a stage reading of a play. I used pastels to create the gun, eye and background imagery, while using Illustrator for the custom digital typography showcasing the name of the play.

Revised Poster for my Graduate Thesis Film

If Only for One Night

Pen & Ink, Watercolor Pencil & Hand-cut Collage

I have re-designed the concept for this poster several times, this one being the final version. I used stills from my film and showed them in a new light, by using water soluble colored pencils, ink and hand-cut collage.

Self-initiated Ghost in the Shell Logo

Clip Studio Paint Pro

Another classic manga and anime, I had to create my own logo for it! I used computer chip imagery within the typography, as well as for the green accents to allude to the hi-tech themes of the story. The skin tone color refers to the human essence that exists within the cyborg characters. The hints of neon purple are a nod to the Neo Tokyo setting of the story.

Ad for The Rocket Film

Adobe Photoshop

This ad was created while working as an intern for Palm Pictures during my undergrad studies. The ad was art directed by various members of the ad sales team, and it appeared as a half page ad in USA Hockey magazine. I used some of the graphic assets from the dvd cover art to create the background and the hockey puck.

Self-initiated Restaurant Logo

Adobe Illustrator

I created this fictional logo for a restaurant that would be based in NYC. I used an easy to read font for a clean look, adding a skyscraper-esque graphic to add a touch of fun to the logo. The burgundy color provides an optional color version for the logo.

Self-initiated Film Poster for The Double Life of Veronique

Clip Studio Paint Pro

Another one of Kieslowski's films that I discovered while in grad school, during my Media Studies program at The New School. I am drawn to films that explore transcendental themes, spirituality and the spirit. The two figures in the poster refer to the film's main characters Weronica and Veronique, two connected souls that never meet. The image is based on a still from the film. The music notes reveal each character's professions in music, Weronica an opera singer, and Veronique a music teacher.

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Witch Hat Atelier

Clip Studio Paint Pro, Illustration by Kamome Shirahama

Who doesn't love magic? When I read the first volume of

this manga I was hooked! I used watercolor brushes in Clip Studio Paint Pro to showcase the detailed line drawings, as well as emulate the watercolor art featured on the cover of each volume.

Cover for Los Elementos Adentro de Mi

Colored Pencil & Studio Self-Portrait Digital Photography

To preview or purchase please visit:

http://bit.ly/loselementosmagazine

Los Elementos Adentro de Mi is a mixed media project that consists of photo collages, illustrations, handmade artist books and digital photographs. With this project I wanted to explore the relationship between the body and the elements – earth, air, fire, water and spirit. I also wanted to push myself and see how I could take a concept and translate it using different mediums.

Los Elementos Adentro de Mi – Sample Spread 1

Hand-cut Collage & Studio Self-Portrait Digital Photography

Los Elementos Adentro de Mi – Sample Spread 2

Colored Pencil & Hand Embroidery

Self-initiated Manga Coloring – Opus

Clip Studio Paint Pro, Illustration by Satoshi Kon

Another page from Kon's Opus manga. I chose this page because it evokes a major theme of the story, the blurring of fiction and reality. I used complimentary colors to add impact to the image, along with gouache and ink brushes to add texture using Clip Studio Paint Pro.

Colored Pencil, Hand-cut Collage, Digital Typography

Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

To preview or purchase the book please visit:

bit.ly/redsoulpoetrybook

Red Soul Into the Dark is David's second collection of poetry. He explores journeying into the unknown with his heart ablaze, facing the fears, doubts and thoughts waiting in the dark. Freedom's light and the comforts of joy and love, are a constant motivator to navigate through life's obstacles, no matter how scared you are.

Self-initiated Lady Snowblood Logo

Clip Studio Paint Pro

Lady Snowblood is an action packed manga and film. I wanted to pay homage to the visuals often used in manga, by using screen tone as texture to fill in the bullseye / umbrella design. As well as using motion lines to draw the eye to the typography. I added in some snow textures because the first part of the story takes place in winter. I went with an ink inspired font as a nod to the time period of the story. There is a lot of violence in both the manga and film, so I put in some blood splatter but it has been restrained for maximum impact.

Cover for my Second Photography Book

Yuuma: The Geisha Redux

Studio Self-Portrait Digital Photography

To preview or purchase the book please visit: bit.ly/gothamdreamingyuumaphoto

In these images I am exploring breaking down and

re-imagining the geisha aesthetic. Utilizing kimono fabric and traditional geisha props, I aim to show another way of looking at the geisha: a view that is unearthed one image at a time. Interspersed with these images are photos taken at the Chinese Scholar's Garden in Staten Island, NY. The landscape looks like it could be from somewhere in Japan, so I thought those images would complement the geisha photos nicely.

Poster for my Newest Experimental Short Film

Falling from the Tree a Single Leaf

India Ink Brush Pen, Colored Pencil, Pan Pastel, Digital Typography & Adobe Photoshop

For this poster I wanted to use all analog materials and showcase the nature themed poem and film.

Menu Insert Ad Sun Dogs Film

Pieces of Gion

Hand-cut Collage and Marker

To preview or purchase the book please visit: bit.ly/gothamdreamingcollagebook

This is a book of collages that combine my own photographs along with origami papers that have kimono inspired patterns. I wanted to create a book of collages as a way to showcase my development utilizing a fairly new skill set. Furthermore, in these collages I aimed to use a minimalist approach to the design aesthetic. Following the "less is more" concept that is prevalent in Japanese design.

Mateo – Book Cover Concept

Colored Pencil, Hand-drawn Typography,

Hand-cut Collage & Adobe Photoshop

This book cover concept was fun to make. I used colored pencil, hand-cut collage and hand-drawn typography to create a horror themed cover, green was an important color in the story, which I why I chose it over red.

A brilliantly acted film with a twist to the modern ghost story, adding in LGBT themes it has become one of my favorites. The underwater scene sheds light on the catalyst event in the story.

For this assignment, I refreshed the Channel Thirteen logo by including the owl as a symbol for knowledge. The spread wing around the Channel Thirteen name suggests comfort and the educational approach to their programming, taking the viewer under their wing guiding them through learning new concepts and ideas. I added in spot colors from their existing website to tie in their current look with the new look.
